3D Beam Propagation Method simulation of a vertical coupler.

When we first implemented the animator tool in Prometheus this was one of the very first examples that we came up with. The mode shift in the curved input waveguides causes some nice lateral fluctuations in the straight coupling section. Therefore internally we call this the "boogey dancer" example.

Simulation of a vertical directional coupler

In the animation sweep we have launched the fundamental mode of the top waveguide. In the vertical coupler, the vast majority (~97%) of the light exits from the bottom waveguide. An example file of this vertical coupler is available in the example directory "Devices MMI" after installation of our software.
